Halifax v Gateshead prediction: Halifax to win, 66% chance, the free leg in today's 4-fold

Back Halifax to beat Gateshead at 3pm today: on our numbers they win this about 2 times in 3 (66%), the model scores it 7.8 out of 10, and it went out on Tuesday at 1.44. Lower League Analyst is 42 from 63 on released picks since 14 April 2026, which is 67%, and last night's pick, Boreham Wood away at Sutton, won 2-0. Halifax is the top leg of today's Best 4-fold (four legs, all 3pm, about 1 in 5), and the other three legs are on the board, 14 days free, no card: see today's 4-fold.

The pick: FC Halifax Town to beat Gateshead

National League, kick-off 3pm today, Saturday 10 October. Halifax are at home, they sit 13th, and Gateshead are 24th and bottom of the table.

The team strength rating has Halifax on 1,528 and Gateshead on 1,372. That gap is what produces the 7.8, which is the highest score on today's board, and it's why this is the leg that goes out free. Our goals model turns the same gap into a match chance: Halifax win 66%, draw 20%, Gateshead win 14%.

So if you put this game on ten times, Halifax win it six or seven, it ends level twice, and Gateshead nick it once or twice. That's what a strong lower league favourite looks like. Nobody can sell you better than that on a National League game, whatever their bio says.

    What the numbers say

Since 6 October the score out of 10 comes from the team strength rating alone. The other numbers below don't move the score, but they're what I'd look at before I put my own money on it, so here they are.

    FactorWhat the data saysScore
    Team strengthRated 1,528 v 1,372, 66% win, 20% draw, 14% loss7.8

    Goals1.5 scored, 1.2 conceded per game7.5
    Head-to-headWon 3 of the last 5 meetings6.7
Recent formWDLDW, 2 wins in the last 56.3

Five of the seven read 7.5 or better, and all of them point the same way. One defeat in six at home is solid for a mid-table National League side, and an eleven-place gap against the bottom club is about as clean a setup as this division gives you.

    What cuts against it

Form and draws are the risk. WDLDW is two wins in five, with two draws in there, and a side that's drawing that often can draw again. The goals model puts the draw at 20%, which is 1 in 5 on its own. Halifax have also only won half of their home games, even though they've lost just one.

Then there's the price. 1.44 says the bookies make Halifax about a 69% shot, a touch higher than our 66%. The model doesn't look at price when it picks, so I'm not selling this as a big single. It's a strong leg, and legs are what the 4-fold is built from. If the draw worries you on a single, draw no bet on Halifax is the insurance at a shorter price.

    Gateshead and us this season

Gateshead have been good to us. We've had four picks against them this season and all four won.

The 4-fold is built the same way every match day and I don't touch it by hand. Take the released picks for the day, drop anything that kicks off before the main kick-off time, rank the rest by score and take the top four. Six picks were released for today and one of them kicks off at 12:30, so it sits out. The early game is the leg that kills your acca by quarter past two and leaves you watching three winners that pay you nothing, so it doesn't go in.

Multiply the four win chances together and you get 18%, about 1 in 5. For comparison, four home wins picked at random land about 1 time in 28. In testing (2021 to 2026) the top four on a Saturday landed on about 1 Saturday in 5, between 21% and 24%. Each leg you add roughly halves your chance, which is why we stop at four.

    The record

42 from 63 on released picks since 14 April 2026, which is 67%. That's 19 from 22 last season and 23 from 41 so far this season. £10 on every pick at the published price is £630 staked and £714.30 back, £84.30 up. The average price across all 63 is 1.80, which implies 56%, and the picks have landed 67%.

Last night was the first settled pick from the team strength rating: Boreham Wood won 2-0 at Sutton, scored 7.2 and released at 1.75. Last Saturday went 1 from 2. Harrogate beat AFC Hornchurch 3-0, and Shrewsbury won 2-1 at Grimsby.

Every result goes up after full time, wins and losses, and Tuesday's post leads with whether today's 4-fold landed, leg by leg. 14 days free, no card: get on today's 4-fold.
